The Year that was.

The past 12 months brought us a lot of pain, uncertainty, and endless fatigue. We never thought we would make it this far, but we did anyway. Despite everything, we found a way to live and love again.

By the grace of God, we managed to win some battles we fought. And we are yet to see what this year has in store for us.

I also became a little more lenient to myself. I have always put pressure and never had an opportunity to reflect on some good things I have achieved. In my previous post, I wrote a letter to myself, and it felt good because I wrote it with tolerance and became more understanding. Check it out here

Below are self-reflection questions about the last 12 months. One of my incredible friends Nafisa, comp compiled these questions as a reflection for 2021, and I thought it was a good idea for me, as someone who never journals reflections.

What did you do in 2021 that you’d never done before?

  • Got to meet one of the iconic women I look up to. The great thing was that the meeting occurred at the event which I coordinated to make it a success.
I was more spiritually inclined this year than ever and looking forward to next year. I made more money than the previous years though I was unemployed for the most time this year. I also became an editor for a local magazine.

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for this year?

  • It is a yes and a no. I kept some and others I am willing to take with me in the new year amd to challenge myself. However, I am determined to be lenient with myself this year. No pressure on my side. I am taking one step at a time.

How did you spend New Year’s Eve?

  • My siblings went on a holiday. I was home with my mother. Usually, we go to church, but due to covid, services had been prohibited.

Did anyone close to you die?

  • Sadly yes. It is painful to lose people closest to us.

What countries did you visit?

  • None this year, due to covid.

What would you like to have in 2022 that you lacked in 2021?

  • Consistency. I would like to see myself being consistent on the things I want to achieve.

What date from 2021 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

  • 24 August 2021
The day we buried my brother-in-law.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

  • I cherished every opportunity given to me. My hugest achievement this year would be that I showed up for every opportunity given to me. In the past, I did not always show up for myself. It was a great feeling to do that for myself.

What was your biggest failure?

  • I failed to maximize my truest potential. At some point, I permitted circumstances to define me.

Did you suffer illness or injury

  • Not at all

What song will always remind you of 2021?

  • Easy on Me by Adele
Photo : Adele’s official Facebook page

What do you wish you had done more of?

  • I wish I had more conversations with those close to me. My friends, family, and cousins. I am naturally a nice person, but I wish I spent more time with my loved ones to know them much better. Covid isolated us a lot.

What do you wish you’d done less of?

  • Look at how much people thought about me. I valued a lot of people’s thoughts about me. I am wiser now, and I know better. People’s opinions are fickle, they will say this today, and something else tomorrow.

What was your favorite TV program?

  • Unpacked with Relebogile Mabotja

What was the best book you read?

  • Woman Evolve by Sarah Jakes.

What was your greatest musical discovery?

  • Music is esprit.

What did you do on your birthday?

Lil sister and I.
  • I spent it with my little sister. We went out for lunch. I also received multiple gifts and ewallets from friends and family.

What kept you sane?

  • The word of God and Prayer. And of course, my beloved blogging community.

Who did you miss?

  • The ladies from Women of Influence gatherings. The number of attendance had lowered due to covid, and I cannot wait for the ladies to be in ample attendance.

Who was the best new person you met?

  • Moksha.
A wonderful person who inspires me a lot. She spends half her time traveling, blogging, and running a successful business, Moksha life in India. I am hoping we get to meet in person as time allows. Earlier this year, we collaborated on a post comparing the effects of the pandemic between South Africa and India.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2021.

  • I made a list of lessons this year here The greatest of them all is Gratitude. I learned to be grateful for everything happening in my life.

I believe 2022 will be the year of growth, purpose, and intentionality. Happiest New Year everyone.
Be blessed!!

Girllllllll, I teared up reading the shout out – so unexpected and totally mad my Sunday. Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so glad to have met you too and hope to meet in real life soon. ❤️🤗

I wish I had talked to close ones more too. I’m an introvert and was even more isolated during this past 2 years. Trying to work on spending more time with those close to me.

Your hard work truly makes me so so proud of you, sister. Here’s wishing you so much success and happiness in 2022. 🤗
Here’s hoping for a better and peaceful 2022 for all of us. ❤️

      You are most welcome sissy❤❤
      I truly appreciate you.

I think we should not feel guilty of not having been able to talk with our closed ones more. Covid isolated us and one of the effects was to make us believe that we can make it even without talking to our loved ones.
Peaceful and a better 2022 for you. I love you dearly

I remember your post about a road trip you took with your sister and her husband. You had to go way up high and it looked scary but so beautiful. Is that your brother-in-law that you lost this past year?

    1. Lebogang Shazzygal Malatji

      Yes its him mommy
He’s the one I went on a road trio with earlier last year. We lost him from covid. It was devastating, but we are holding on and prayer has been our hiding place

      1. wendaswindowcom

That just breaks my heart. He did look like he was taking good care of you and your sister that day. What is her name so I can pray for her? She is just too young to be a widow. I love you all so much. Hope you are doing well!

        1. Lebogang Shazzygal Malatji

I prayed about what to say to you. You are both so special to the Lord. I know I would not change a thing He allowed in My life. I am so very happy today. I get to be with Jesus in ways I could not be If My husband, Gary and daughter, Melanie had not passed when they did. The Lord knows what we need when we only see the pain, He sees the good outcome. Just hang on to Him and I know He has a great plan for the both of you. This is preparing you for it. You just cannot help being around overcoming women! Must be a reason! Love you, Love you, Love you!
